Ultrasonic Testing
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) involves a beam of high frequency of mechanical vibration or Ultrasonic energy transmitted through the test material is intercepted and reflected by discontinuities back to the receiver. The travel time of the beam is being measured. Knowing the velocity of wave propagation and time the distance to the discontinuity is estimated. Information about the discontinuity such as location, size and type is displayed on the screen.
For Ultrasonic Testing, Tri-State NDT, Inc. uses computerized Ultrasonic equipment that gives high accuracy of inspection. We specializes the following:
- Welded Rails and Girders
- Pipe joints with full and partial penetration
- Frame structures (cranes, roofs, beams, sheet metal, bridges…)
- Pressure vessels, storage tanks
- Bolts, shafts, crankshafts, axles
- Gears, wheels, pins
- Trucks, railroad cars
- Bonding
- Detection of surface cracks
- Corrosion measurements
- API 653\510 tank inspection
Below are photographs of some problems that we encounter in our daily inspections

penetration in the weld.
